Gary Neville defends Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Wolves on Twitter

The Manchester United legend defends playing youngsters in the FA Cup after Liverpool's exit

Gary Neville has defended Jurgen Klopp’s team selection after Liverpool lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup fifth round at Anfield on Saturday.

The Merseyside outfit were already licking their wounds after a 2-0 aggregate defeat in the EFL Cup mid-week after Shane Long scored a late winner to a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the second leg of their semi-final at Anfield.

Klopp opted to make eight changes for the visit of the Championship side with a number of young players such as Joe Gomez, Ben Woodburn and Connor Randall coming into the starting XI ahead of the visit of Premier League leaders Chelsea on Tuesday.

However, Liverpool conceded inside the opening minute from a set-piece before Austria international Andreas Weimann extended the visitors’s lead before Divock Origi netted what proved to be a consolation goal.

Match Of The Day host Gary Lineker was critical of Klopp’s team selection after their cup exit but Manchester United legend Neville proved an unlikely ally for Klopp on Twitter after their fourth-round cup exit.
