Gary Neville: John Terry told me this Chelsea star is fighting like crazy
The Manchester United legend reveals that the Chelsea captain has been impressed with Diego Costa's attitude in training
Gary Neville has revealed that Chelsea captain John Terry has been impressed with Diego Costa’s work ethic under Antonio Conte in training this season.
The Spain international is unquestionably back to his very best in a Chelsea shirt after a return of 14 goals in 19 appearances in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign.
Costa’s goals have helped to fire the west London side well clear of their title rivals Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal in the title race with just under half of the season remaining.
The 28-year-old was a big hit in the Premier League in his first season in England after he netted 20 times in 26 appearances to help Jose Mourinho’s side become champions in 2014-15.
However, Costa could only muster 12 goals in 28 Premier League games in what was a disappointing season for both the player and the club as Chelsea finished in tenth place.
Speaking on the Gary Neville podcast, the ex-Manchester United defender lifted the lid on his conversation with former England team-mate Terry about Costa.
“Costa is an outstanding centre forward. He is brilliant to watch. His half hour at Manchester City was a brutal performance. It was everything you want to see from a striker,” Neville said.
“Just speaking to John Terry about training at Chelsea and how everyone has bought into it. Costa is in training every day, he is hungry and fighting like crazy.”
