Gary Neville: This is what Man United fans want to see from defender

The Manchester United legend has his say on left-back Luke Shaw after his stuttering start to life under Jose Mourinho

Gary Neville says he is desperate to see Luke Shaw realise his potential like most Manchester United supporters.

The England international has seen his promising career stall at Old Trafford over the past 18 months or so after a £27m move to Manchester United from Southampton in the 2015 summer transfer window.

Shaw made an impressive start to the 2015-16 season before he broke his leg in two places during a 2-1 loss to Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League in September 2015.

The left-back didn’t make his return to the Manchester United side following a long rehabilitation until this summer following the appointment of Jose Mourinho as Louis van Gaal’s successor in May.

Shaw was heavily criticised for his poor performance in a 3-1 loss at Watford in September before Mourinho appeared to single out Shaw and Chris Smalling for their reluctance to play at Swansea City.

Mourinho confirmed on Wednesday that Shaw is available for selection after recovering from his latest injury problem.

And Neville posted the below tweet on social media when one Manchester United fan suggested the ex-defender wasn’t a fan of striker Anthony Martial.
