Gary Neville: This player won’t start for Man United v Liverpool

Gary Neville is not expecting to see Wayne Rooney feature from the start when Manchester United host Liverpool on Sunday

Gary Neville does not believe that Wayne Rooney will feature from the start for Manchester United against Liverpool on Sunday.

The striker has been in decent form in recent weeks and moved to within one goal of breaking the Red Devils’ all-time goal-scoring record last weekend when he netted the opener for Manchester United against Reading in the FA Cup.

Rooney has struggled for form for both club and country this season and it remains to be seen whether Jose Mourinho will opt to play him from the start against the Reds.

And former Manchester United defender Neville is not expecting to see Rooney feature from the start, but says he could come off the bench and decide the game.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Neville said: “If you’re a United fan, then the dream scenario is that he comes off the bench and scores the winner!

“It would almost be too good to be true, but I don’t think he will start the game.”

Manchester United head into the game in sixth place in the Premier League table and 10 points behind leaders Chelsea.

They know that a win over Liverpool would close the gap to the Reds down to just two points.
