Gary Neville: Why Arsenal, Liverpool have no excuse in the title race

The Manchester United legend believes Chelsea will slip up in the title race and their title rivals must be ready to pouce

Gary Neville has warned Chelsea’s rivals that they will have no excuses left if they fail to capitalise on a blip from the leaders in the title race.

Chelsea have managed to remain consistent throughout the 2016-17 season in recent months as their title rivals Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City continue to drop valuable points in their pursuit of the west London side.

Antonio Conte’s side made the trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night before Chelsea take on Liverpool and Arsenal in two of their next four Premier League fixtures.

Jurgen Klopp and Arsene Wenger will be hoping to take points off Chelsea as Liverpool and Arsenal look to close the points deficit heading into the final months of the season.

Former Manchester United defender Neville believes Chelsea will also drop points at one of the smaller clubs in the Premier League during the conclusion of the title race and it is up to their title rivals capitalise on any rare errors.

“There is no excuse for any of the other five teams beneath them. No excuse,” Neville told the Gary Neville podcast.

“They all have to play Chelsea. If you take points off them, they’ll be in trouble. The five beneath them have to take points off them and then there will always be that game in the Premier League where they lose to a lower team. It will always come.”
