Graeme Souness: Forget Dele Alli, this was Tottenham’s best player against Chelsea
The ex-Tottenham midfielder was impressed with Victor Wanyama's performance against Chelsea on Wednesday night
Graeme Souness has singled out Victor Wanyama for special praise after Tottenham Hotspur were 2-0 winners against Premier League leaders Chelsea.
The Kenya international started in the heart of Mauricio Pochettino’s side as Wanyama came up against arguably the best midfield in the Premier League in the shape of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic.
However, Wanyama produced an influential performance as goals from Dele Alli either side of half-time helped the north London outfit to end Chelsea’s 13-game winning run.
The 25-year-old defensive midfielder moved to Tottenham in an £11m deal from Southampton in the summer transfer.
Wanyama has even managed to score two goals in 20 appearances in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Chelsea on Wednesday night, Souness highlighted Wanyama’s performance at White Hart Lane.
Souness said: “Can I just mention one player that we’ve been raving about tonight: Victor Wanyama. He was arguably the best player on the pitch. You’ve got to give the man of the match to Dele Alli, but Wanyama was a different gravy tonight.”
Tottenham hoisted themselves above Arsenal and Manchester City into third place thanks to their 2-0 win against the Premier League leaders.
Spurs have won their last five top-flight fixtures.
