Graeme Souness makes prediction about Chelsea and Liverpool in the title race

Graeme Souness says Chelsea's 2-0 loss to Tottenham won't have a huge bearing on the Premier League title race

Graeme Souness believes that Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night will not have a big impact on the Blues’ title hopes this season.

The Lilywhites claimed an impressive win over their bitter local rivals after Dele Alli scored either side of half-time to claim victory for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

The defeat was Chelsea’s first loss in 13 games in the Premier League and allowed Liverpool to move to within five points of the leaders in the table.

However, former Liverpool star Souness does not feel that Wednesday’s result is likely to have a huge bearing on the title race and says that Chelsea remain the team to beat this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports immediately after the game, Souness said: “This has opened the door. This has given everyone a bit of hope going forwards now.

“Arsenal, Liverpool, both Manchester teams, Tottenham – all it’s done is open the door slight for them.

“For me, Chelsea are still the teams to beat. Losing this means nothing to Chelsea in the big picture.”

Chelsea finished in 10th place in the Premier League last season, while Liverpool ended up in eighth place and without a trophy.
