Graeme Souness’s response when asked if Chelsea could struggle after Tottenham defeat
The Liverpool legend plays down the chances of Chelsea imploding after their 2-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur
Graeme Souness doesn’t believe Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur will put a seed of doubt in the Premier League leaders’s minds in the title race.
The west London side made the short trip to White Hart Lane on Wednesday night in search of a record-equalling 14th successive top-flight win.
However, Tottenham ended Chelsea’s winning run thanks to two goals from Dele Alli either side of half-time in the London derby.
The Blues are still five points clear of second-placed Liverpool in the title race, with Tottenham moving to within seven points of Chelsea.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the west London side’s 2-0 loss at White Hart Lane, Souness played down the chances of Chelsea imploding after their first Premier League defeat since September.
“Are Chelsea going to wake up tomorrow morning with a seed of doubt in their heads? No. They knew they were playing against a really good team tonight,” Souness said.
“There’s no disgrace in Chelsea coming here and getting beaten. I don’t think it will even put a scratch on Chelsea. They’ve just won 13 games. They will think they can go another 13 games.”
Chelsea hadn’t lost a Premier League game since a 3-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in September before their 2-0 defeat by Spurs.
The Blues will make the trip to defending Premier League champions Leicester in their next top-flight outing.
