Ian Wright delivers verdict on Liverpool and Tottenham in the title race

The former Arsenal striker believes Tottenham Hotspur are better placed than Liverpool to challenge Chelsea for the title

Ian Wright believes Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are Chelsea’s biggest contenders for the Premier League title this season.

Spurs eased to an emphatic 4-0 win against West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon after Harry Kane bagged a hat-trick in north London.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham side hoisted themselves above Liverpool and into second place in the Premier League table.

Liverpool missed the chance to reclaim second place after Jurgen Klopp’s side played out a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Reds were 1-0 up thanks to James Milner’s penalty before Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised with six minutes remaining.

Former Arsenal striker Wright believes Spurs have the best chance of beating Chelsea to the title given their recent momentum in the Premier League.

“I still think Liverpool do [have a chance in the title race]. Remember how many players are missing for Liverpool at the moment,” Wright told BBC Sport’s 606 podcast.

“You have to say that Liverpool have got a better chance than Manchester United right now but Tottenham are the ones. They’ve got momentum without anyone leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations.”
