Ian Wright issues warning to Arsene Wenger ahead of Arsenal v Crystal Palace
The Arsenal legend is worried that Arsene Wenger's men could be caught out on the counter attack on New Year's Day
Ian Wright has warned Arsenal that new Crystal Palace manager Sam Allardyce will look to catch out the home side on the counter attack.
The north London outfit took 86 minutes to make the breakthrough against West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day after Olivier Giroud glanced a header past Ben Foster from Mesut Ozil’s cross.
Arsenal’s close-fought win against the Baggies was even more significant after the Gunners ended a two-game losing run to kick-start their title bid after a disappointing spell in December.
Palace played out a 1-1 draw with Watford in the London derby at Vicarage Road on Boxing Day after Allardyce was appointed as Alan Pardew’s successor.
Former Arsenal striker Wright is worried that Palace could exploit Wenger’s side on the counter-attack with the pace of Wilfried Zaha.
“Arsenal will have to be careful. They can be caught on the counter-attack. It won’t be an easy game,” Wright told The Sun Goals podcast.
Arsenal have lost to Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City in the Premier League this season.
The Gunners finished in second place in the Premier League table last season.
