Ian Wright makes blunt admission about Arsenal ahead of Southampton clash

The Arsenal legend has a warning for Arsene Wenger about the FA Cup

Ian Wright has admitted that Arsenal supporters want something more than another FA Cup triumph ahead of their trip to Southampton in the fourth round on Saturday evening.

The Gunners will take on the EFL Cup finalists after Shane Long’s added-time winner sealed a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the second leg of their last-four clash at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Long’s strike sealed a 2-0 aggregate win as Southampton look to end their long wait for a major trophy under new manager Claude Peul.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are hoping to end their Premier League title drought after Arsene Wenger led his Invincibles side to glory in 2003-04.

The Gunners ended their long wait for silverware in 2014 after beating Hull City in the FA Cup final at Wembley before Arsenal retained their trophy with a dominant win against Aston Villa in 2015.

Speaking to the Sun Goals podcast, former Arsenal striker Wright warned Wenger that the Gunners fans want something more than another FA Cup win.

“You can never turn your nose up at the FA Cup but Arsenal winning it three times is not what the fans deep down want. They’ll take it. Arsenal have still got to try and win this competition,” Wright said.
