Ian Wright makes bold claim about Tottenham duo after win over Chelsea
The Arsenal legend believes Tottenham have the strongest midfield in Europe
Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama’s performance in Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 win against Chelsea has prompted Ian Wright to describe the Spurs duo as the strongest defensive midfielders in Europe.
The Lilywhites entertained the Premier League champions at White Hart lane on Wednesday night as Chelsea looked to notch up a record-equalling 14th successive Premier League win.
However, England international Dele Alli scored either side of half-time with close-range headers to secure three points for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and hoist them up to third place.
While Alli was named the man of the match, Dembele and Wanyama have been hailed for their ability to keep Kante and Matic quiet during the London derby at The Lane.
Speaking on The Sun Goals podcast, former Arsenal striker Wright made a big claim about the Tottenham duo after their impressive performance against the leaders.
“Those two defensive midfielders are the strongest you’re going to find… I’d say in Europe, easily,” Wright said.
Tottenham signed Wanyama in a £11m deal from Southampton in the summer transfer window as the African star was reunited with his former boss Pochettino.
