Ian Wright makes exciting prediction about Arsenal and striker
The former Arsenal striker believes Danny Welbeck has a vital role to play in their title push
Ian Wright believes Danny Welbeck has a vital role to play in Arsenal’s title push after the striker scored on his return to Arsene Wenger’s side.
The England international netted twice in the opening 22 minutes of Arsenal’s 5-0 win against Southampton in the FA Cup fourth round at St Mary’s on Saturday evening.
Welbeck was making his first start since the centre-forward suffered a serious knee injury at the end of the 2015-16 campaign which kept the England star out of Arsenal’s first half of the season.
The former Manchester United striker has scored 15 times in 55 games for the north London side since his £16m switch to Arsenal from Old Trafford in the 2014 summer transfer window.
Speaking to BBC’s 606 podcast, Wright tipped the Arsenal striker to play a vital role in the second half of the 2016-17 campaign as the Gunners look to overhaul current leaders Chelsea.
“Arsenal played excellently. It was so good to see Danny Welbeck coming back. He hits the ground when he comes back from injury. He scores goals and makes a difference. That will be good for Arsenal’s push,” Wright said.
Arsenal are in second place in the Premier League table but eight points adrift of current leaders Chelsea.
