Ian Wright reacts to Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Preston in the FA Cup
Ian Wright has his say on Olivier Giroud after Arsenal's comeback win over Preston in the FA Cup third round
Ian Wright praised Olivier Giroud after the striker fired Arsenal to a 2-1 win over Preston North End in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday night.
The Gunners fell behind in the seventh minute at Deepdale when Callum Robinson slotted home from close range to put the home side ahead.
However, the north London side battled back after the break and equalised when Aaron Ramsey drilled home from the edge of the box.
And Giroud had the final say when he smashed home from close range after being found by Lucas Perez’s superb backheel.
It was Giroud’s fourth goal in as many games and Wright was full of praise for the French striker after the final whistle.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Wright said: “I always say with Giroud, when he’s in the middle holding it and Arsenal can play up to it, he’s very dangerous.
“At the moment he’s in a rich vein of scoring goals.”
Giroud himself admitted that it took a while for Arsenal to click into gear.
“They surprised us with their commitment,” Giroud told BT Sport. “We were not in the game in the first half. We wanted to bounce back in the second half and show some character and we did it.”
Arsenal, who are currently fifth in the Premier League, will now turn their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their home clash against Swansea City on Saturday.
