Ian Wright: This Chelsea player is a brilliant substitute
The former Arsenal striker heaps praise on Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas
Ian Wright has claimed that Cesc Fabregas has really come into his own as an impact substitute for Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
The Spain international has struggled to tie down a regular starting spot in the Italian’s first-team following the arrival of N’Golo Kante in a £30m deal from Premier League champions Leicester City in the summer transfer window.
Fabregas has only started five Premier League games in the 2016-17 campaign, although the midfielder did have a big impact in two of those occasions after making an assist at Manchester City and scoring a winner at Sunderland.
The 29-year-old midfielder has made just nine appearances in the current campaign but has been praised for his impact on Premier League games despite receiving limited game time.
Speaking to The Sun Goals podcast ahead of Chelsea’s home clash against Stoke City on New Year’s Day, Wright heaped praise on former Arsenal captain Fabregas for his impact from the bench.
“Right now where Cesc Fabregas is in his career and what Chelsea are doing, he is a brilliant substitute,” Wright told The Sun Goals podcast.
“In the last 15-20 minutes of a game when you need a bit more creativity and the other team is getting tired, someone like Cesc can come on to bring that quality to the centre-forward.”
Chelsea started the Premier League weekend in first place and six points clear of their closest rivals Arsenal.
