Ian Wright: This is what Olivier Giroud does so well for Arsenal
The former Arsenal striker hails Olivier Giroud's predatory instincts attacking the ball inside the penalty area
Ian Wright has claimed that Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is one of the best strikers in the world when it comes to attacking the ball in the area.
The France international has been in scintillating form in recent weeks after a return of four goals in his last four games in all competitions.
Giroud was handed his first Premier League start of the season after the Frenchman scored a late winner in a 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day.
The 30-year-old netted an incredible scorpion goal in a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace before Giroud made two assists and netted the equaliser in a 3-3 draw at Bournemouth in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
The former Montpellier centre-forward netted a 90th-minute winner in Arsenal’s 2-1 win against Preston North End in the FA Cup third round on Saturday evening.
Speaking to BT Sport ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup victory, former Gunners striker Wright highlighted Giroud’s strengths in the penalty area.
“For all of Giroud’s goals, he is in and around the area. He doesn’t have a tendency to get drawn out,” Wright said.
“He stays in the middle. When you see him in the box attacking balls, he is as good as you’ll get.”
