Ian Wright: Why I don’t expect Chelsea to collapse in title race

The Arsenal legend doesn't expect Chelsea to suffer a dip despite their 2-0 loss at Tottenham mid-week

Ian Wright has played down the chances of Chelsea’s bubble bursting in the Premier League title race after their 2-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Blues made the short trip to White Hart Lane looking to record their 14th successive top-flight win and equal Arsenal’s record run.

However, Antonio Conte’s side couldn’t cope with in-form Tottenham as Spurs became the first side to beat Chelsea since Arsenal in September.

Dele Alli broke the deadlock in the first half with a close-range header before the England international doubled their lead after the break.

Chelsea are still five points clear of their closest rivals Liverpool ahead of their trip to defending Premier League champions on Saturday 14 September.

Speaking on The Sun Goals podcast, Wright played down the chances of Chelsea suffering a dramatic collapse despite their setback against the Lilywhites.

Asked if Chelsea’s bubble has burst after their defeat, Wright said: “No.”

He added: “Tottenham at home is a difficult proposition for anyone. I don’t care with 13 wins on the spin or not. With their strongest team out against anyone else’s strongest XI will give you problems.”

Tottenham are in third place and seven points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
