Ian Wright’s response when asked if Jurgen Klopp’s bubble has burst at Liverpool
The former Arsenal legend believes Liverpool have lost some of their zip
Ian Wright believes Liverpool are going through a tough period under Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds missed out on the chance to reach back-to-back League Cup finals under Klopp after a 2-0 aggregate loss to Southampton in the last four on Wednesday night.
Liverpool were looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg at St Mary’s but the Reds couldn’t find a way through Southampton’s depleted back four and Republic of Ireland international Shane Long scored an added-time winner to seal a 1-0 victory for the Saints.
The 18-time English champions have only managed to register one win in seven games in 2017 so far after Liverpool ended last year on a high with a 1-0 victory over title rivals Manchester City at Anfield on New Year’s Eve.
A run of two stalemates and a home defeat has seen Liverpool drop to fourth place in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of current leaders Chelsea ahead of their Anfield clash against the Blues next Tuesday night.
Asked whether Klopp’s bubble is starting to burst at Anfield, Wright told The Sun Goals podcast:
“”Coutinho is just coming back, Firmino is getting it going again and it’s been a tough season for Lallana. You can kind of see it a little bit in him. Not that’s he’s tired but he hasn’t got that zip.””
