Insider’s response when asked if Arsenal could sign Valencia defender

Guillem Balague plays down talk of Arsenal signing Valencia youngster Jose Gaya in the summer

Arsenal won’t signing Valencia left-back Jose Gaya in the summer transfer window, according to Guillem Balague.

The Daily Mirror reported in December that the Gunners were keeping tabs on Gaya as a potential recruit to bolster Arsene Wenger’s left-back options.

The Spanish defender has played 14 times in La Liga in the 2016-17 season, although the full-back is still waiting to score his first goal or make an assist.

Arsenal have used Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs at left-back this term, while Spain international Hector Bellerin is their first-choice right-back.

Responding to a question about whether Arsenal could sign Gaya in the summer transfer window, Balague told Sky Sports during a question and answer session:

“I don’t think he is a target for Arsenal. He renewed his contract until 2020 in May 2015 and is not yet a regular for Valencia. He would like to achieve that first before he moves on… if he moves on.”

Arsenal signed five players in the summer transfer window after the Gunners finished in second place in the Premier League table last term but 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
