Insider’s response when asked whether Man United will sign top striker
Guillem Balague reveals Antoine Griezmann turned down Manchester United once already
Guillem Balague has revealed that Antoine Griezmann is observing Diego Simeone’s future at Atletico Madrid before the striker makes a decision on whether to move in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal and Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the France international as Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger look to bolster their attacking options at The Emirates and Old Trafford.
Griezmann has established himself as one of the leading strikers in Europe over the past couple of seasons after a prolific spell at los Rojiblancos under talismanic manager Simeone.
The Atletico man missed the decisive penalty in Atletico’s loss to bitter rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Milan last year before France lost 1-0 in extra time to Portugal in the Euro 2016 showpiece.
Asked about the legitimacy of speculation linking Griezmann to Manchester United during a question and answer session with Sky Sports, La Liga expert Balague said:
“We talk about him every week and the situation is still the same. He has not decided on his future, which is not linked to Simeone’s but he wants to see what the manager decides to do.
“He had offers from Manchester City and Manchester United, which he turned down because he didn’t feel it was the right time. Of course, Untied, Chelsea and City will all be there if he is available so let’s wait and see.”
Manchester United signed four players in the summer transfer window.
