Jamie Carragher examines how to stop Chelsea in title race
The Liverpool legend comes up with a solution to try and stop Chelsea from playing
Jamie Carragher believes matching Chelsea’s tactics could be the only way to stop Antonio Conte’s side.
The west London outfit made a swift return to winning ways on Saturday evening after Chelsea were 3-0 winners against defending Premier League champions Leicester City.
Claudio Ranieri’s side deployed a 3-4-3 formation in an attempt to cancel out Chelsea’s successful tactic but goals from Marcos Alonso and Pedro Rodriguez sealed a comfortable win.
Everton did something similar at Stamford Bridge earlier this season but it resulted in Conte’s side cantering to a 5-0 win over the Toffees in one of the best performances of the campaign.
Tottenham, though, managed to match up against Chelsea and emerge as victors after a 2-0 win against the current leaders earlier this month thanks to Dele Alli’s goals either side of half-time.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher examined what opponents can do to try and tame Conte’s all-conquering Chelsea side.
“People keep changing [to face] Chelsea. Everton changed and got battered, I think Leicester were well beaten,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“The one side who have beaten them of late is Spurs, and they also played three at the back, although they have better players than Everton and Leicester.”
Chelsea are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and eight points clear of their closest rivals Tottenham and Liverpool.
