Jamie Carragher issues Arsenal warning ahead of Chelsea trip

Jamie Carragher delivers his verdict on Arsenal ahead of their crunch clash against Chelsea on 4 February

Jamie Carragher has told Arsenal that they must do everything in their power to beat Chelsea when they travel to Stamford Bridge in February if they want to haul themselves back into the title race.

The north London side are trailing Chelsea in the hunt for the Premier League crown as they look to go one step further than they did last season, when they finished second in the table.

Arsenal came unstuck before Christmas when they lost back to back Premier League games to Everton and Manchester City as Chelsea opened up a nine-point gap on their London rivals.

The north London side will now be focused on closing the gap to the Blues before their crunch clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 4 February.

And Carragher has delivered his assessment of where Arsenal stand ahead of their clash against Antonio Conte’s men.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Bournemouth, Carragher said: “Arsenal could gain some ground on Chelsea.

“Chelsea have got to go away to Spurs and to Liverpool before they play Arsenal.

“That could be a chance to close that gap if Chelsea drop points. But then you’ve got to deliver in that big game at Chelsea. You’ve got to go and get something or win the game.

“The gap at the moment is too big and the only way of closing it is taking the points when you come up against Chelsea.”
