Jamie Carragher makes frank admission about Tottenham ahead of Chelsea clash
The Liverpool legend doesn't believe Tottenham will catch Chelsea in the Premier League title race
Jamie Carragher doesn’t believe Tottenham Hotspur can overhaul Chelsea in the title race despite admitting that Spurs have the quality to win the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side were 4-1 winners against Watford at Vicarage Road on New Year’s Day thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Dele Alli in the London derby.
Tottenham have won their last four Premier League games against Crystal Palace, Burnley, Southampton and Watford ahead of the visit of Chelsea on Wednesday night.
Kane has scored 10 goals in 14 Premier League fixtures to leave the north London outfit 10 points behind current leaders Chelsea ahead of their derby meeting.
Alli has also contributed plenty of goals to Tottenham’s title push after finding the net eight times in 16 Premier League outings.
While Carragher is an admirer of Pochettino’s improving Tottenham side, the Liverpool legend poured cold water on talk of Spurs beating Chelsea to the title.
“We’ve spoken about what stops Tottenham from really going to the top of the Premier League,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“Dele Alli and Harry Kane have got the potential to get there, to be the real stars of the Premier League. Harry Kane’s right up there as a centre-forward. I think they’ll go close, I just think there maybe something just missing with Tottenham to really go on and surpass Chelsea at this stage.
“They’re in a better position than they were this time last season. This is the first time I actually believe Tottenham could go and win the league.”
Tottenham finished in third place in the Premier League table last season.
