Jamie Carragher reveals who is the real star of the Liverpool team

The Liverpool legend explains why Jurgen Klopp is the star of the current Reds team

Jamie Carragher has claimed that Jurgen Klopp is the star of the current Liverpool team.

The German head coach was appointed as Liverpool’s new manager back in October 2015 after Brendan Rodgers was issued with his marching orders after a poor start to the 2015-16 season.

Klopp has remarkably managed to transform Liverpool into title contenders in just over 12 months after the 49-year-old signed seven players in the summer transfer window.

The 18-time English champions started the Premier League weekend in second place and six points adrift of leaders Chelsea after a promising start to the 2016-17 season.

Klopp will be hoping his current Liverpool side can go one step further in the title race than Rafael Benitez’s men and Rodgers’s outfit that finished in runners-up in 2009 and 2014.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, Carragher explained why he believes Klopp is the genuine star of the Liverpool team despite the German’s side containing players such as Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

“I have to make Klopp the biggest influence in this group as the season begins to take shape. Every time a question has been thrown at him, he hasn’t flinched about going against the grain of public opinion — or pundits! It is a huge asset to have that belief in your decisions,” Carragher told The Daily Mail.
