Jamie Carragher reacts to Emre Can’s performance in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Sunderland
The former Liverpool defender was disappointed with Emre Can's contribution in Tuesday's 2-2 draw at Sunderland
Jamie Carragher was critical of Emre Can’s performance at the Stadium of Light after Liverpool were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw with Sunderland.
The Germany international started in a deep-lying midfield role in the absence of injured captain Jordan Henderson after the England man picked up a heel injury in their 1-0 win over Manchester City on New Year’s Eve.
However, Can struggled to replicate Henderson’s influential performances this season as Sunderland twice pegged back Liverpool through Jermain Defoe’s penalties either side of half-time.
The former Bayer Leverkusen man was fortunate escape punishment for a handball in the Liverpool area in the second half as Jurgen Klopp’s side were unable to muster a late winner.
And Carragher took to Twitter to vent his frustration at Can’s performance in the first half before Liverpool went on to draw 2-2 with Sunderland.
Emre Can needs to seriously liven up, Henderson big miss at the moment.

Liverpool are unbeaten in the Premier League since a 4-3 loss to Bournemouth in early December.
However, Chelsea can move eight points clear of Liverpool if Antonio Conte’s side beat Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
