Jamie Carragher: This is one of Jurgen Klopp’s biggest strengths at Liverpool
Jamie Carragher hails Jurgen Klopp's ability to lift the spirit of the Liverpool squad
Jamie Carragher says Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has an incredible ability to lift people’s spirits.
The Merseyside outfit battled to a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon after James Milner broke the deadlock in the first half from the penalty spot.
The Red Devils equalised through veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic with six minutes remaining after the ex-Sweden international guided a header past Simon Mignolet.
Liverpool were without first-team players Nathaniel Clyne, Joel Matip and Sadio Mane for the trip to Old Trafford, while Philippe Coutinho started on the bench on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table and seven points behind leaders Chelsea in the title race.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, Carragher praised Klopp for upsetting the odds and getting a result at Old Trafford.
“One of Jurgen Klopp’s massive strengths is lifting people. Going into this game, there was trepidation with Liverpool supporters in terms of the roll that Manchester United were on, Liverpool’s performance at Southampton, the injuries they’ve got and the team sheet with the young lad playing at right-back,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“All week, Klopp’s handling of the press, he has spoken about how he can’t wait for the game and he is looking forward to it. He is exactly right, when you’re winning with seven or eight minutes to go, it does feel like two points dropped. In the morning, you look at it and it’s one point gained and you’re back up there and closer to Chelsea.”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table.
The Reds signed seven players in the summer transfer window.
