Jamie Carragher: Tottenham need a player like Alexis Sanchez to be the real deal
The ex-Liverpool defender delivers his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur in the title race
Jamie Carragher believes Tottenham Hotspur are lacking a player such as Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez.
The north London side have emerged as one of Chelsea’s biggest challengers for the Premier League crown in recent weeks after an impressive six-game winning run in the English top flight.
Tottenham were 2-0 winners against the Premier League leaders in January after goals either side of half-time from England international Dele Alli at White Hart Lane.
Spurs finished in third place in the Premier League table last term despite challenging Leicester City for the title throughout much of the 2015-16 season.
Writing in his Daily Mail column, Carragher spoke of his admiration for Tottenham but admitted that the north London outfit are missing a player of the ilk of Hazard or Sanchez.
“All they are missing is a superstar such as Eden Hazard, Alexis Sanchez — or having Gareth Bale still at the club. Then they would be the real deal. They are not, however, far away from becoming just that,” Carragher said.
Tottenham signed five players in the summer transfer window as Pochettino looked to transform his squad into title winners.
