Jamie Redknapp: Chelsea won’t win the title without this player

Former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp warns Chelsea about what could happen if Diego Costa leaves Stamford Bridge in the summer

Jamie Redknapp has warned Antonio Conte that Chelsea won’t win the Premier League title without Diego Costa.

The Spain international has rocked the boat at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks despite scoring 14 times in 19 games to help the west London side move clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Chelsea were without Costa for their trip to the King Power Stadium last weekend due to what Conte described as a back injury, although the Blues eased to a 3-0 win against Leicester City.

However, according to reports in the British media, Conte and Costa had a heated exchange during a training session ahead of their clash against the Foxes about interest from China in the Chelsea striker.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning, ex-Liverpool captain Redknapp made about Chelsea in the title race if Costa leaves the west London outfit in the January transfer window.

“If he where to leave in January transfer window and you can’t replace him, I don’t think Chelsea will win the league,” Redknapp said.

“I think you can get away with it in some games and Hazard playing in that No9 role is so good and he can do it. They need his goals.”
