Jamie Redknapp: This Man United striker is the best stop-gap signing
The former Liverpool midfielder heaps praise on Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Jamie Redknapp has hailed Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the best stop-gap signing.
The Red Devils appeared to be heading towards a defeat after James Milner broke the deadlock in the first half from the penalty spot following Paul Pogba’s handball.
Manchester United were denied by a number of impressive saves from Simon Mignolet and the woodwork, while Liverpool failed to take their chances on the break at Old Trafford.
Jurgen Klopp’s side paid the price for wastefulness when summer signing Ibrahimovic equalised with a close-range header to salvage a point for the home side.
The former Sweden international has scored 10 times in his last 10 games in the Premier League to continue his excellent run of form.
Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp was full of praise for Ibrahimovic after the centre-forward’s 14th goal of the 2016-17 Premier League campaign.
“He has been such an effective acquisition. After just 20 league games it is too early to rank him among the Premier League’s greatest forwards but already he looks like the best stop-gap signing,” Redknapp told The Daily Mail.
“Zlatan is the Premier League’s joint-top scorer with Alexis Sanchez and Diego Costa on 14 goals and he could have had even more when you think of the chances he missed during his six-game goalless run last autumn.”
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 12 points behind leaders Chelsea in the title race.
