Jamie Redknapp: This was a big moment in Man United’s season
Jamie Redknapp heaps praise on Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan for his contribution to the Red Devils
Jamie Redknapp has described Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s winner against Tottenham Hotspur as a big moment in Manchester United’s season.
The Red Devils notched up their ninth successive win in all competitions following a 2-0 win against Hull City in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
The 20-time English champions have managed to haul themselves back into contention for a top-four finish this season thanks to their impressive run of form under new manager Jose Mourinho.
Their run started with a 1-0 win against Tottenham at Old Trafford in November after Armenia international Mkhitaryan scored his first Premier League goal following his £30m move to Manchester United from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund last summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Manchester United’s home clash against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp described Mkhitaryan’s winner as a vital moment in the club’s first campaign under Mourinho.
“Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been a big part of it. He had a difficult start to life at Old Trafford, but I think back to their game against Tottenham in December as a big moment in their season,” Redknapp said.
“I remember covering that game and thinking Spurs could easily go there and get a draw, but Mkhitaryan came into the United team and he lifted the place. He added that extra quality and scored an excellent goal.”
Mkhitaryan was one of four summer signings at Manchester United.
