Jamie Redknapp: Why I’m convinced Man United can win the title

The former Liverpool captain believes Manchester United have a squad capable of winning the Premier League title

Jamie Redknapp is convinced Manchester United can win the Premier League title thanks to their squad depth.

The Red Devils have prompted murmurings of an unlikely title challenge in recent months after Jose Mourinho’s side pieced together a six-game winning run in the Premier League ahead of the visit of Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United haven’t won the top-flight crown since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson guided the Red Devils to his 13th and final Premier League title with help from the goals of Netherlands international Robin van Persie.

Mourinho has key players in superb from unlike at the start of the 2016-17 season, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba all hitting top form in recent weeks under the Manchester United manager.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the north-west derby at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, Redknapp highlighted why Manchester United can’t be counted out of the title race.

“They have certainly got the squad for it [to win the title],” Redknapp said.

“You’ve only got to look at their 4-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup. They were able to play a really strong team, whereas Liverpool had to play a lot of kids and drew 0-0 with Plymouth.

“That shows you the options United have. When you have players like Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Athony Martial who can come into the team, you have options who can make a real difference.

“With the players they have they should be looking to win the title.”
