Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink tells wing-back to move to Chelsea
Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Adama Traore would be a good signing
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes Middlesbrough wing-back Adama Traoe would benefit from a move to Chelsea in the January transfer window.
The former Barcelona defender has emerged as a surprise target for the Premier League leaders as Antonio Conte looks to add greater depth to his Chelsea squad.
The Spanish man has made 14 appearances in the Premier League this season for promoted side Boro, catching the eye of the west London outfit.
Antonio Conte switched to a 3-4-3 formation earlier in the 2016-17 campaign, which places a huge reliance on wing-backs Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses.
The winger started his career at Barcleona and scored one goal in four appearances in all competitions before moving to Aston Villa in the 2015-16 season.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ about Chelsea’s reported interest in Traore, Hasselbaink explained why believes the Boro winger would be a good signing.
“You need back-up. He is very thin in wing-back areas. Who can play there? He has only an under-23 player as back-up. That’s why he is looking to strengthen in those areas. Those areas are vital because of the system they are playing,” Hasselbaink said.
“For me, Traore still needs to learn the other side of the game. There’s no better place than Chelsea to do so.”
Traore scored one goal in 11 games in all competitions during his one season at Villa.
Chelsea are seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham in the title race.
