Jose Mourinho confirms this Man United player is set to leave the club
Jose Mourinho confirms that Memphis Depay is expected to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he expects Memphis Depay to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window if the right offer is made.
The Netherlands international has found his first team opportunities to be severely restricted this season following Mourinho’s appointment as the club’s new manager back in May.
Indeed, Depay has not made a single Premier League start for Manchester United this season under Mourinho.
His only start of the campaign has come in the League Cup against Northampton Town back in September.
Depay’s lack of first-team football is inevitably going to lead to speculation linking him with a move away from Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
And Mourinho has admitted that he was planning for Dpeay to leave the club in January for much of this season.
Mourinho was quoted as saying by Sky Sports before Saturday’s clash with Middlesbrough: “I have to say that in the past couple of months my decisions in relation to Memphis were influenced by the feelings and information that he would like to leave in January and that we were going to have a real offer that we would be willing to accept.
“That obviously influences me. If I know, if I have the feeling that a player is leaving – if I have to give chances and develop other players – then I go to Lingard, Mkhitaryan, Martial, the players I know 100 per cent who are going to stay with us.
“It is a position where we have more options.”
Manchester United finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season.
