Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Eric Bailly is set to return to the Manchester United squad after Ivory Coast were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The centre-half has missed Manchester United last three games in all competitions following his participation in the major tournament.
In fact, Bailly hasn’t made a first-team appearance since a 2-1 win against Premier League strugglers Sunderland at Old Trafford on New Year’s Eve.
The Ivory Coast international moved to Manchester United in a £30m deal from La Liga outfit Villarreal in the summer transfer window.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Manchester United’s EFL Cup clash against Hull City, Mourinho confirmed that Bailly was heading back to Manchester after Ivory Coast’s AFCON exit.
“”Bailly didn’t arrive yet but his national team had a defeat [on Tuesday] and are knocked out of the competition, so he is coming back,” Mourinho said.
Manchester United have the third-best defensive record in the Premier League this season.
The Red Devils signed four players in the summer transfer window after Mourinho was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s successor in May.
