Jose Mourinho makes bold prediction about Marcus Rashford at Man United
Jose Mourinho believes that Marcus Rashford could end up breaking Wayne Rooney's goal-scoring record for Manchester United
Jose Mourinho has claimed that Marcus Rashford could break Wayne Rooney’s goal-scoring record for Manchester United in the future.
Rooney hit the headlines over the weekend when he netted the Red Devils’ opening goal in their 4-0 FA Cup win over Reading at Old Trafford on Saturday to equal Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time scoring record at the club.
The Manchester United striker will be hoping to break the record when the Red Devils host Hull City in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final clash at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
However, Mourinho is tipping Rashford, who scored twice against Reading, to achieve big things at Manchester United in the future and has suggested that he could end up challenging Rooney for the title of being the club’s top goal-scorer.
Mourinho is quoted as saying by Metro: “Marcus, he is 19. If he plays at Manchester United until the end of his career, maybe Marcus can do it, but Rooney scored a lot of goals.
“I don’t know the distances, really, but I think the ones that are close to the record are players that have left United already. So, especially in modern football, I see it as being really difficult.”
Manchester United are currently sixth in the Premier League table but have won their last eight games in all competitions.
