Jose Mourinho reacts to Anthony Martial’s display for Man United v Reading
Jose Mourinho admits his delight at Anthony Martial's performance for Manchester United against Reading on Saturday
Jose Mourinho was delighted with Anthony Martial’s performance for Manchester United after the Red Devils thrashed Reading 4-0 to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Wayne Rooney opened the scoring at Old Trafford as he equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s goal-scoring record for the Manchester club.
Martial then added a second shortly after with a cool finish to put the Red Devils in control of the third-round tie at Old Trafford.
The French striker has scored two goals and made three assists in 12 Premier League games for Manchester United so far this season under new boss Mourinho.
And the Red Devils boss was pleased with what he saw from Martial during the win over Reading on Saturday.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, Mourinho said: “Martial played very well against Middlesbrough but, because he was not playing for a long time, him and myself felt that 48 hours later against West Ham it was better not to start so, today, he was fresh and again very objective playing against a good player.
“[Chris] Gunter is a good right-back and he performed very well again but I think [of] everybody, we could name lots of players, we could name [Marouane] Fellaini, we could name so many of them, but, overall, the team collectively played well again and we created lots of chances.”
Manchester United, who are currently sixth in the Premier League, now turn their attentions towards their EFL Cup semi-final clash against Hull City on Tuesday night.
