Jose Mourinho’s response when asked if Man United can win title

The Manchester United manager delivers verdict on their chances of winning the Premier League title this season

Jose Mourinho believes Manchester United are facing an “impossible mission” to win the Premier League title this season.

The Red Devils are going strong in four competitions after the 20-time English champions were 4-0 winners against Championship side Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fourth round at Old Trafford.

Goals from Marouane Fellaini, Chris Smalling, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Bastian Schweinsteiger sealed the Red Devils’s progress into the fifth round.

Manchester United are in sixth place although the top six are bunched up aside from Chelsea, who are eight points clear at the top of the table and 14 points ahead of their former manager Mourinho and his Red Devils squad.

Asked about the possibility of winning four trophies this season, Mourinho was keen to play down their chances of lifting the Premier League title.

“In a realistic way, I think the Premier League is almost an impossible mission but I don’t think about it – I just think of winning the next match and that is not an impossible mission; it’s just a difficult match we can win,” Mourinho told his media conference.

“That’s how we think in the Premier League. In the League Cup we have 50 per cent chance of winning, in the FA Cup we’re in the last 16 and in the Europa League we’re in the last 32, so there are lots of matches to play.”
