Jurgen Klopp provides latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Plymouth clash
The Liverpool manager confirms Philippe Coutinho, Joel Matip and James Milner will miss FA Cup third-round clash
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he won’t risk Philippe Coutinho, Joel Matip or James Milner when Liverpool take on Plymouth at Anfield on Sunday.
The Liverpool vice-captain was forced off at half-time of their 2-2 draw with Sunderland on Tuesday afternoon as Alberto Moreno replaced the versatile player.
Coutinho hasn’t lined out for the Merseyside outfit since a 2-0 victory over the Black Cats at Anfield in November after he suffered a serious ankle injury.
Cameroon international Matip has also struggled with ankle ligament damage since a 2-2 draw with West Ham United at Anfield in mid-December.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference at Melwood on Friday ahead of their FA Cup third-round clash at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, Klopp answered questions about Coutinho and Matip.
“Both [players] are in a good way but not for this weekend,” Klopp said.
Quizzed on Milner, Klopp added: “Little issue with his calf. We won’t take the risk with him this weekend.”
Liverpool are in second place in the Premier League table and five points adrift of current leaders Chelsea after the Blues lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
