Jurgen Klopp provides latest Liverpool injury update on Philippe Coutinho ahead of Man United clash
The Liverpool manager reveals that Philippe Coutinho still isn't 100 per cent ahead of their trip to Manchester United on Sunday
Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Philippe Coutinho still isn’t at 100 per cent ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Brazil international made a return to first-team action on Wednesday night as Liverpool lost 1-0 to Southampton in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final clash.
The Merseyside outfit have been without Coutinho since the Brazilian suffered a serious ankle injury in the first half of Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Sunderland in late November.
The South American attacking midfielder got 29 minutes under his belt at St Mary’s but couldn’t inspire Liverpool to a comeback despite injecting much-needed energy into the side.
Speaking at his post-match media conference after Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat at Southampton, Klopp provided an update on Coutinho’s fitness ahead of their trip to bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday.
“Good, it was nice – the best news from tonight. You could see immediately how important he is,” Klopp said.
“Of course, he’s not at 100 per cent but it was important for him to have half an hour, that’s really important. He did well and yes, [it is] good.”
The Reds are in second place and five points ahead of Jose Mourinho’s side ahead of their meeting at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
