Jurgen Klopp reacts to Philippe Coutinho’s comeback in Liverpool’s 1-0 win
The Liverpool manager was pleased that Philippe Coutinho was able to get 60 minutes under his belt at Plymouth
Jurgen Klopp was delighted to see Philippe Coutinho return to the Liverpool side for their 1-0 win against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup on Wednesday night.
The Brazil international was restored to Klopp’s starting line-up following his recovery from an ankle injury after he made his last start in a 2-0 win against Sunderland at Anfield in November.
Coutinho returned to first-team action in the second half of Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to Southampton in the EFL Cup last week before his impressive cameo in a 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Sunday.
The South American lasted 65 minutes of the third-round replay at Home Park before he was substituted after teeing up Lucas Leiva for the visitors’s winner in the first half.
Speaking at his post-match media conference following their FA Cup win, Klopp delivered his verdict on Coutinho’s performance ahead of their home clash against Swansea City in the Premier League on Saturday.
“[He] was good. Actually, I expected you to ask me about Lucas! I’m happy, really happy. It was very important for us. I thought 60-65 minutes was the perfect intensity for today. Good for him and good for us,” Klopp said.
Coutinho has scored five goals and has made five assists in the Premier League this term.
