Jurgen Klopp: This is my smallest problem at Liverpool
The Liverpool manager is happy with his goalkeeping options....
Jurgen Klopp has spoken of his delight at the form of Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.
The Reds boss signed Karius in a £4.7m deal from Bundesliga outfit Mainz in the summer but the German shot stopper was heavily criticised for some erratic performances.
Klopp opted to restore Simon Mignolet to first-choice goalkeeper after the Belgian star was accused of being sub-par in recent seasons following an erratic spell under Brendan Rodgers and Klopp.
However, the ex-Sunderland man has barely put a foot wrong in the Premier League since becoming first-choice again, while Karius was one of the only Liverpool players to emerge with credit after the two-legged EFL Cup semi-final defeat.
Speaking about his two goalkeepers, Klopp joked that Karius and Mignolet were the smallest problem occupying the Liverpool boss amid the team’s current drop in performance level.
“A few weeks ago, we spoke about our goalkeepers and a lot of people thought last year we were not happy with one goalkeeper, this year we are not happy with two goalkeepers, so it made it even worse,” Klopp said.
“Now I think the smallest issue we have is goalkeepers, so how nice is this? But they can’t, unfortunately, win the games alone.
“It was never in doubt about quality but it’s about timing and things like this. Simon is doing really well, another really important thing.
“I’m fine with the goalkeeper situation and hopefully I can say the same on Sunday.”
Liverpool are in fourth place in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
