Jurgen Klopp delivers update on January transfers at Liverpool
The Liverpool manager explains his philosophy when it comes to signing players in the January transfer window
Jurgen Klopp admits he won’t sign a player in the January transfer window unless he is convinced that it is the right signing for his Liverpool squad.
The Merseyside outfit are in third place in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of leaders Chelsea in the title race after their 2-2 draw with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in their last top-flight outing.
Sadio Mane scored Liverpool’s second goal in a 2-2 draw with Sunderland before the winger headed off to the Africa Cup of Nations with the Senegal national team.
Liverpool have also been without talismanic captain Jordan Henderson in recent games after the midfielder picked up a heel injury, while Philippe Coutinho has only just returned to the Reds side after a two-month absence.
Speaking during a Facebook Live session with Sky Sports on Friday afternoon, Klopp was asked whether he was tempted to make any January signings to bolster his stretched Liverpool squad.
Klopp replied: “It is really difficult.
“If you tell me that the right player is now available for us then we would do it.
“I am 100 per cent convinced that the thing you do in winter you should only do in the summer, too. Everything else only solves a problem for a second then in a few days you have another problem.”
