Jurgen Klopp’s response when asked about Liverpool making a world-class signing

The Liverpool manager is grilled about the possibility of the Reds signing a world-class player during a Facebook Live session

Jurgen Klopp insists he is open to signing a world-class player for Liverpool if the right signing becomes available

The Reds were one of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window after Klopp led the Merseyside outfit to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League table following his appointment as Brendan Rodgers’s successor back in October 2015.

Klopp brought in Senegal international Sadio Mane in a £34m deal from Premier League rivals Southampton in July, before the Liverpool boss snapped up Georginio Wijnaldum in a £25m deal from Championship side Newcastle United.

Liverpool have made a strong start to the 2016-17 season and the Reds are in second place in the table but a mere five points adrift of leaders Chelsea with 18 games to go in the title race.

Klopp held a Facebook Live session with Sky Sports on Friday afternoon ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Reds boss was asked whether he could be tempted to sign a world-class player like many of Liverpool’s chief rivals have been doing, Klopp said:

“If we have the right player and he is already world-class – why not? That is absolutely no problem.

“It’s not that simple, I would say. One player can’t make the difference. In one match? Yes. But in the long-term? No. We are all human beings.”

Klopp added: “We are always looking but we are looking for the right players, not for somebody.”
