Kurt Zouma lifts lid on conversation with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte
Kurt Zouma reveals that he has been in constant contact with Antonio Conte even while he was injured
Kurt Zouma has revealed that he has been in constant contact with Antonio Conte despite his long spell on the sidelines with Chelsea.
The French defender made his long-awaited return to the Chelsea first team on Sunday as he helped the Blues seal a 4-1 FA Cup third-round win over Peterborough at Stamford Bridge.
Zouma had not featured for the whole of the season until that point after suffering a serious knee injury last term and embarking on a lengthy recovery process.
Conte has made a big impact since taking over at Chelsea in the summer and his side have earned plenty of praise for their performances in recent weeks.
And Zouma has explained how Conte always kept him involved in the action at Stamford Bridge despite his lack of playing time this season.
Speaking in an interview with Chelsea’s website, Zouma said: “He talked to me like he talks to everyone. He said: “Recover well, because when you are back I want you to play.
“In August I went on the tour with the squad, so I was next to the players, close to them, and that helped a lot. The manager explained his tactics to me because we did not know them before.
“At that time we were playing four at the back but now we play a five with three central defenders.
“The manager likes to do a lot of tactical work and he put me in there with the other players to help me learn and understand. It was good. He worked to make me understand it in my head even though I was not fully fit.”
Chelsea are currently gearing up for their Premier League trip to Leicester City on Saturday night.
