Mourinho delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Liverpool showdown
Jose Mourinho provides the latest Manchester United fitness news on Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is likely to be fit for Manchester United’s Premier League showdown with Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Swedish striker was left out of the squad as Manchester United claimed a 2-0 win over Hull City in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night as the forward suffered with illness.
However, the Portuguese coach believes that the veteran forward is likely to be available for selection again when the Red Devils host their bitter local rivals this weekend.
Asked about Ibrahimovic’s fitness before the game, Mourinho told Manchester United’s website: “Zlatan is ill so I think no problem, I think he will be fine.”
Mourinho also went on to provide an update on defender Marcos Rojo’s fitness levels after the Argentine sat out Tuesday’s game with a muscular injury.
He continued: “I don’t know [if Rojo will be fit]. Marcos has a muscular problem, not big. I’m not saying he’s not ready to play, I’m saying that I have my doubts.”
Manchester United head into the game in fine form and having won their last nine games in all competitions.
The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League table and know that a win over Liverpool would cut the gap to their bitter local rivals down to just two points.
