Paul Merson states prediction for Leicester v Chelsea
The former Arsenal midfielder is tipping Chelsea to squeeze past Leicester City on Saturday evening
Paul Merson is backing Chelsea to edge past defending champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.
Antonio Conte’s side will have a point to prove this weekend after the Premier League leaders lost 2-0 to bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane last time out.
England international Dele Alli scored either side of half-time to seal three points against Chelsea earlier this month despite Conte’s men winning 13 games on the spin.
Chelsea are still five points clear of their closest rivals Liverpool in second place despite losing their first Premier League fixture in 14 outings.
Leicester have endured a difficult defence of their top-flight crown this season, and Claudio Ranieri’s men are in 15th place in the table and six points clear of the relegation zone.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson backed Chelsea to pick up three points at Leicester and return to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
“This is a huge match. Leicester are missing some players at the Africa Cup of Nations and this is a big one for Chelsea after losing to Tottenham,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“They play Hull next week before two difficult games against Liverpool and Arsenal. If they don’t win this game then you start wondering whether the wheels might fall off.
“I expect Chelsea to have just a little bit too much and I don’t see how Wes Morgan and Robert Huth will be able to cope with Diego Costa. I think it will be difficult but Chelsea to win.”
Chelsea have only lost to Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham this term.
