Liverpool identify Juventus midfielder as January target – report

Liverpool are chasing Juventus midfielder Francesco Cassata, according to reports in Italy

Liverpool are chasing Juventus midfielder Francesco Cassata in the January transfer window, according to reports in Italy.

Gianlucadimazio.com are reporting that Jurgen Klopp has identified the on-loan Ascoli midfielder as a potential target as the Liverpool manager looks to bolster his options at the Premier League title challengers.

Cassata has scored one goal in 19 appearances in Serie B so far this season, with Ascoli languishing in mid-table after a disappointing start to the 2016-17 term.

The 19-year-old hasn’t made a first-team appearance for Serie A giants Juventus despite being part of Massimiliano Allegri’s squad that won the title in 2015-16.

Liverpool signed seven players in the summer transfer window after Klopp guided the Merseyside outfit to an eighth-place finish last term.

The Reds are in second place in the Premier League table and five points adrift of leaders Chelsea after 20 games.

Liverpool will make the trip to bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as the Reds look to return to winning ways after a 2-2 stalemate with Sunderland last time out.
