Graeme Souness makes prediction about Chelsea in the title race

Graeme Souness says Tottenham's win over Chelsea will not dent the Blues' Premier League title bid

Graeme Souness believes that Chelsea’s loss to Tottenham will not affect the west London club’s Premier League title bid.

The Blues suffered their first Premier League defeat in 13 games on Wednesday night as they went down 2-0 to Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Despite the loss, Chelsea are still five points clear at the top of the Premier League table and are the firm favourites to win the top-flight title this season.

And Liverpool legend Souness is not expecting the defeat to have much of an effect on Chelsea’s form as they look to get back to winning ways in the FA Cup against Peterborough this weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports after last week’s loss, Souness said: “The winning record means nothing right now. They’ve lost it.

“This is a good Chelsea team. I don’t think they were that bad on Wednesday night. It was a really good Tottenham team that matched them in every department and the margins were tiny – just a couple of bits of brilliance.”

Chelsea’s sharp upturn in form this season under new boss Antonio Conte has been in stark contrast to their struggles last season, when they finished in 10th place in the table and without a trophy.
