Antonio Conte issues warning to Chelsea about Liverpool in title race

The Chelsea manager believes Liverpool can still win the Premier League title this season

Antonio Conte has warned Chelsea that Liverpool are still capable of winning the Premier League title this season.

The Blues are sitting at the top of the table and eight points clear of their closest rivals Arsenal in the title race ahead of their trip to Liverpool in their next Premier League game at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Chelsea have won 15 of their last 17 Premier League games since Liverpool were 2-1 winners against Conte’s side at Stamford Bridge in September to leave the Italian’s side sitting in a comfortable position at the top of the table.

Liverpool have endured a tough start to 2017 so far after the 18-time English champions played out stalemates with Sunderland and Manchester United before a 3-2 loss to Premier League strugglers Swansea City at Anfield last weekend.

The Reds have lost further ground on Chelsea in the title race with Conte’s side 10 points ahead of Liverpool.

Speaking to his media conference after Chelsea’s 4-0 win against Brentford in the FA Cup fourth round, Conte said:

“To win away against Liverpool is never easy. We have only two days to prepare. When we played against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, we lost the game, the only game we have lost here.

“It’s important to understand the real value of this team. It’s a really tough game, an important game. After this game there will be 15 games to finish the season. Liverpool are a team who can fight until the end to win the title.

“Only through work can dreams happen. For us to stay on top of the league is a dream. If you remember our start, now we are doing very well.”
