Jurgen Klopp’s response when asked if Sadio Mane could play in Liverpool v Chelsea
The Liverpool manager addresses whether Sadio Mane will be ready to face Chelsea on Tuesday night
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he will make a late decision on whether Sadio Mane will feature when Liverpool host Chelsea in the Premier League at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Senegal international has been unavailable over the past few weeks as the forward participated in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Indeed, Liverpool have only managed one win in seven games in all competitions since Mane’s departure which has led to pressure being heaped on Klopp.
The African star scored nine goals and made four assists in 19 games in the Premier League following his £34m switch from Southampton in the summer.
Mane left Liverpool in second place in the Premier League table but the Reds have since dropped to fourth spot after a three-game winless run.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference at Melwood training ground ahead of Liverpool’s clash against leaders Chelsea, Klopp confirmed that he is hoping Mane will be available for selection.
“I don’t know exactly,” Klopp said. “He’s now on his way, we thought it would be possible yesterday.
“We had a plane there yesterday, but he wasn’t allowed. He had to wait.
“Now it’s all good, he will be here tonight at some point.
“I spoke to him, it’s all good so far. He will be in tomorrow morning, [but] I have no idea.”
Liverpool are 10 points behind current leaders Chelsea with 16 games to play.
